Tokyo to Baltimore

11 June 2025

We left from Haneda Airport, Tokyo—more convenient from Asakusa than Narita—and flew directly approximately 15 hours to Dulles. Because of the time change and the date line we arrived in DC on the exact day and at the same time we left Tokyo.
The next morning (a relative term), I ran along a stretch of grassy median on Roland Avenue, one that very few traverse. I enjoyed the view down two lines of very green trees on either side of my path. As usual, I listened to an Italian podcast while breathing deeply of the cool, damp Baltimore air.
A week at home. Oliver the cat got his lion cut, a plumbing crisis came and went with a not-terrible bill, and I was charmed by the fully blossoming catalpa tree, a subject of a number of my paintings and one I’m unaccountably surprised by every time I see it.
Eight days in June in the States included many sweet family moments! We then flew from Newark to London, drove a rental to Cambridge, where the current weather is brilliant, the pub fare is decent and 16th-century ghosts abound.
